The picture to the right shows an EPS pattern of an engine housing. Styro-Cast® is EFP's registered trademark for molded products made for the Evaporative Pattern Casting (EPC) process. These EPS patterns have a high degree of dimensional accuracy and are used to cast complex shapes. Multiple core pulls and multi-piece assemblies of Styro-Cast® patterns allow design engineers to create intricate internal cavities, zero draft interior flow passages, undercuts, core threads, and cast-in metal inserts.
During the EPC process, an EFP Styro-Cast® pattern is coated with a permeable refractory slurry. Once the coating has dried, the pattern is invested in loose, unbonded sand. As the molten metal is poured, the EPS gating and pattern vaporize, leaving a finished casting.

Advantages of using Styro-Cast® patterns include:
• Near net shape castings.
• Superior surface finish.
• Reduction of machine stock; fewer machining operations required.
• Elimination of core making, locating, and removal.
• Limitless options; linear tolerance of +/- .005 "/ inch, thin wall sections to .160", and as cast surface finish to 60 RMS.
• Can be utilized with many ferrous and nonferrous metals.
EFP Styro-Cast® patterns and the EPC process are benchmark technologies in the foundry industry. By working with EFP, your design engineers are limited only by their imaginations.
